Barcelona is ready again for a new Christmas season.
As the tradition dictates, there is the well-known light show that starts this Thursday (28/11/2019).
During the coming weeks the city will be decorated and lit with Christmas decorations and there are various markets to enjoy on the occasion of the holidays.
The Can Fabra square, located in the Sant Andreu district, will be the scene of the lighting of the Christmas decorations this Thursday. The theater company Dagoll Dagom will be in charge of this show, which starts at 5:30 pm and lasts about 60 minutes.
PEACE AND HARMONY ON THE URQUINAONA SQUARE
For the first time in history, the Urquinaona Square will be marked this year with a symbolic enlightenment as a sign of “peace and harmony,” motivated by the disruptions that occurred in the city during the last weeks.
Also the busy street Via Laietana that ends at the square of Urquinaoa will get some nice decoration of Christmas lights again this year, this will be only the second time that you can enjoy these beautiful ornaments.
Also this year there are many markets that can be visited in Barcelona during the Christmas period. One of the annual classics is the Llúcia market.
From November 29 to December 22, Cathedral Avenue will house around 300 stalls offering all kinds of Christmas items that are characteristic for the Christmas holidays.
The “Reis” market, which will be set up again this year in Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes,it is another attraction worth visiting in the Catalan capital. Between December 19 and January 6 shops are set up between the confluences of the streets of Muntaner and Calàbria. On this market you will notice that especially toys and other gifts prevail. Since the start of the market in 1877, a large influx of visitors is expected every year.
Other nice markets that you can enjoy are Nadal de Sant Lluc, in the district of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and La Ribera, but also at the location of Poble Espanyol you will find a nice market mainly focused on the gastronomic field. This year there is also a novelty at the Christmas market of Port Vell, where you can admire the Nativity scene and between December 5 and January 5 a Christmas tree illuminated with LED lighting that will be 31 meters high.

In a season that is characterized by many purchases, a day dedicated to shopping cannot be missed. This year the “Shopping Night of Barcelona” falls on December the 19th, five stages with live performances and other recreational activities will take place and enliven the evening where the locals can shop on Passeig de Gracia until midnight.
