Barcelona subway tickets can be purchased in the metro station with cash or by credit card, at a ticket machine, sometimes there is the option to buy them at the desk in the station.

There are different tickets available, each valid for a certain type of travel.

Subway Barcelona

Barcelona’s Metro is one of the most used public transportation system in Europe. The Barcelona metro has 8 lines and 165 stations.

Operating times: The metro in Barcelona operates from 5 am to midnight from Sunday until Thursday. On Friday the subway opens until 2 am and on Saturday and other public holidays, the metro is open 24 hours a day.

To facilitate your journey, you can have a look at the official map of the Barcelona metro below, so you can make a screenshot of it and bring it with you. Good to know, you can also obtain it for free in the Tourist Office of EL Prat airport as in all metro stations.

  • During the day, the metro usually passes every 2 to 4 minutes.
  • While at night, the passages are less frequent, you can wait up to 10 minutes.
